We are very lucky here at Rosendale to have the fantastic resources to make a radio show. This show is broadcast on Friday and we often listen to it in class. The radio regularly features some of our classmates reading things like the news, jokes and stories as well as some input from teachers.
Our favourite part of the radio broadcast is the Celebrations. Each week students from our class are celebrated by Miss Atkins for things they have achieved.
Listen to the last podcast here: https://rosendaleradio.podbean.com/e/rosendale-radio-26th-may-2017/
This episode featured Oscar, Shyan, Marta, Daniel, Chloe, Frieda, Kiegan.
(hint: celebrations start a 12mins)
We’ve had a push on spellings recently and will be continuing this in the final half term. We want to ensure that everyone is secure with the words they have been asked to learn by the end of year 3. We are going back over them and those from year 2 too.
Here they are:
Year 2 words:
Year 3 words:
Yesterday (Monday), we went to the Museum of London. We walked to Herne Hill station and caught the train to Farringdon in our groups. I was with Chloë, Abigail, Marta and my mum!
When we got to the museum we had a Roman workshop to get to. When we got to the lesson we got to hand around Roman things in our group and we got an oil lamp but we had to guess what it was. After that the teacher picked 5 people to come up and dress up. I was one of them! I got to dress up as a Roman maid in a long pink dress. After we dressed up we took a picture with a Roman house backdrop.
On the trip we learnt about how different dye’s were different prices. We also dressed up. Miss lanser was the emperor and I was the knight. I also learnt that armour was very heavy. Me and my group had a grooming kit and we got a replica and when we saw the real thing it was a lot darker but it was cool to hold something so old. We said its weird how in two thousand years some things have changed and others have not.
London was called Londonia.
After lunch we went to the exhibit to know what we would need for battle and other things.
I would recommend this trip because it’s fun and there are loads of things to do.
What a fun filled Media Week in 3ML! We were lucky enough to be visited by two people from Disney Channel. We learnt all about making TV shows, how animations are made and tried our illustrative skills on the iPads. FUN FACT: Disney films, like Toy Story 3, are translated into 43 different languages 😱.
In Maths, we’ve carried on our learning about lines this week to include horizontal and vertical. We now know parallel, perpendicular, horizontal and vertical. Perpendicular seem to be the tricky ones! These are lines that meet to make a right angle.
In literacy, we have been planning our own adventure story. The children had to draw a version of their plan and then put into a more formal template. We’ve been exploring dramatic sentence starters and how and why we make paragraphs. We learnt that we need a new paragraph when there the time has changed, we are in a new place, a new topic has been introduced and a new person. By person, we also mean that a new person has started speaking.
Next week, we will start writing our own adventure story using our plans to help us.
We are all looking forward to the trip to the Museum of London on Monday. Children need a rain coat and a packed lunch. We need to make sure we are at school when the gates open on Monday morning so that we dont miss our train!
Have a good weekend.
We are having a great Media Week in 3ML! On Monday we were visited by the CLC and spent the afternoon learning how to use the Brushes app on the iPads. We created scenes from the story we are learning about, Adventure at Sandy Cove.
Today we were visited by the ‘Big Boss’ from Disney! He told us all about how TV programs are put together. It was very interesting to look behind the scenes of Disney Channel’s The Lodge which was originally based of an Israeli series North Star.
We are looking forward to our next guest later this week! Wonder who it could be?
This week we have been continuing to learn about angles, focusing on right angles. In our maths lessons we have been using right angle checkers to see what shapes have right angles in them. We started with paper ones but we realised using tracing paper was much easier to see whether the lines of a shape on a worksheet made a right angle or not.
We have now moved on to thinking about parallel and perpendicular lines:
In literacy, we have been learning about adventure stories. The children did their cold task, writing an adventure story without many prompts from Miss Lanser. Then they were read ‘Adventure at Sandy Cove’. Check out the previous post for our short dramatization of the story.
Next week, we will be really looking at the ‘ingredients’ that go into making a good adventure story.
We have been loving French this term so have been listening to our french songs whenever we get a chance! Links for the months and days are here. Also remember you can login to linguascope at home for fun french games.
In art today we started painting sunbursts with watercolour paints. They look very beautiful and should be all finished shortly.
Have great weekends and enjoy the camping if you are going!
Next week will be our second Rosendale Media Week. The theme this year is “Bringing stories to life”, and the children will be creating articles for the school magazine and multimedia content themed around the books in Rosendale Book Club.
We will be looking at how stories are brought to life using different media, such as animation, film and digital art.
In our class we will be using an app on the ipad called brushes to draw scenes from an adventure story.
You can follow the action on twitter by searching for #rosendalemediaweek17
The school magazine, Rosendale Voice, will be out at the end of the summer term. It will be jam packed with lots of fabulous writing and art, as well as links to all the multimedia content we make next week.
